  • Hours: Friday,  3.30 PM - 5.00 PM

Course 1 is a foundational course and is designed to be a gentle introduction to basic programming concepts, such as algorithms, syntax, loops, and variables, through the engaging and familiar experience of a game. In each activity, students use computational thinking , robotics, story telling and computer programming to navigate the course. New students joining the Courses will always go through the Course 1 sessions 

Course 1 Schedule

3:30 PM – 5:00 PM,   Block & Tackle

Session 1

Action packed primer into the basics of computational thinking. Learn about events, arguments, sequence, conditions, loops and variables using Block coding. Test your concept understanding tackling our Bot challenges

3:30 PM – 5:00 PM,  Code Combat

Session 2

Fight and defeat Ogres in the dungeons of Kithgard by coding arguments in Python. Learn as you play this awesome game and understand natural language concepts  through Python Syntax , Arguments, Strings, While Loops, Variables &  Algorithms

3:30 PM – 5:00 PM, Minecraft Mods

Session 3

Venture into the awesome world of Minecraft MODDING. We will build and publish some cool mods on ACA’s private Minecraft server

3:30 PM – 5:00 PM, Claymation

Session 4

Explore Animation and Storytelling by fusing Art and Technology.  Just as real world movie makers do, we will first build clay models and then integrate them into our Animation application to tell a compelling story. Imagine doing your very own LEGO Movie or EMOJI Movie

3:30 PM – 5:00 PM,   3-D Design

Session 5

Learn about 3D geometries, designs and assemblies. We will test the design concepts by making our favorite Minecraft characters. The 3D designs will be 3D printed and returned to the students the following week

3:30 PM – 5:00 PM, Robotics

Session 6

Tinker, build, program and test age/skill appropriate Robots. Just as they do in real world, we work in teams to iteratively build Robots to accomplish missions. The missions are mini multi round competitions. Teams make subtle changes to their Robots based on their learnings
